How Is The Immeasurable Majesty Of God On Display?

Yesterday (2/25/16) I had the opportunity to preach on Psalm 8 at Central Union Mission. A friend recorded the sermon, so I’ve uploaded that here to share, along with some of my notes. Would you please continue to pray for everlasting fruit?

Psalm 8
To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.

1 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings[b]
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Sermon Outline:

How is the immeasurable majesty of God on display?

(1) Yahweh wins the war with words from the weak,
after His fingers formed vast heaven’s fleet.
(2) To Adam, our Lord delegated duty.
Then God became man, Christ crowned in majesty.

Here is a note for the sake of clarity and biblical faithfulness. If you listen to the audio recording, I’d like to point out an instance where I should have been more clear with a pronoun. At around 11:45 in the recording, I said, “If you have professed with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ [if] you have become like a little child and depended on him like a Father, then that enemy has no accusation on you, because you are sealed with the Spirit of God, if that profession is true, if you truly repent of your sins and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.” That part was not in my manuscript. I should have said something like: ” . . . If you have become like a little child and trusted in God [the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ] as your Father, your adopted Father through faith in Christ, then . . .”
